Double your pleasure

While I was in New York, Susan and I were going from the Met to meet some friends at a pub on the Upper West Side. Walking up Broadway, we happened upon a Tower Records which was having a final liquidation sale. We spent a half hour or so perusing the remainder of their CD selection, which reminded me how little I knew about music. I eventually managed to prize two soundtracks from the store: Thank You For Smoking and My Name is Earl. Upon examining my finds, I found that each of them had a rendition of "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! That Cigarette." WATFO?

I'm keeping both versions on iTunes, because one is by Tex Williams and the other by Sammy Davis, Jr., respectively. If somebody can provide a compelling reason for one track over the other, I'd be happy to hear it.

Are you kidding?

Sammy Davis Jr...ugh. Sammy recorded every song he ever heard someone say they liked.

Find his rendition of Shaft. It really captures the magic.

That sounds compelling enough for me. Being a whippersnapper means I missed out on nearly all of the Rat Pack's quirks.
